Jerkapotamus

Big Boss

Posted by Jerkapotamus Jul. 7, 2008 @ 1:03 PM EDT

So I got Big Boss rank today. I'll end up having to go through the entire game again when trophy support comes out though. It was damn fun though. For anyone attempting it, good luck. It's not as hard as you'd think. I'll be happy to help if anyone needs any tips.

I'm hoping to best your time ;P

Jul. 10, 2008 | 2:40 PM Jerkapotamus responds:

I'm sure I'll do a couple of more runs at it. I'm hoping to get close to 3 hours. There were a couple of areas I could of done faster (especially in act 3), so I'll go through it again after I get the Assassin's Emblem and a couple of others.

I'm not a big fan of MGS but I respect someone who is willing to do everything in a game. You are a lot more dedicated than I am.

To lighten the mood I shall light a few candles and precede to cock joke.

not bad dude, i gotta try that

Jul. 10, 2008 | 2:41 PM Jerkapotamus responds:

It's definitely worth it. It's not too hard, but requires a good deal of trial and error.

Did you watch the video of the guy who did it in 3 hrs? Because I was thinking of doing that and playing it after watching a section.

And it is hard, especially for those who aren't used to MGS games.

Jul. 19, 2008 | 3:17 PM Jerkapotamus responds:

I remember hearing about some guy beating it in three hours on G4, but it was more fun figuring out paths for myself. It basically just takes a whole lot of trial and error. I got stuck a couple of times, but I just had to set the controller down for a couple of hours and then come back to it.

I don't know how much experience in other MGS games helped. MGS1, 2, and 3 are really different breads than MGS4.

Jul. 15, 2008 | 1:28 PM MetalDart says:

How did you beat it so fast? Aren't the cutscenes alone a few hours?
I thought you skipped them, but I see the amount of flashbacks you've watched.

Jul. 19, 2008 | 3:10 PM Jerkapotamus responds:

You skip the cutscenes, but flashbacks carry over from previous playthroughs.

Jul. 27, 2008 | 8:50 PM Jerkapotamus responds:

I think I have 15 PS3 retail games. I'm really not playing any of the online ones currently though. I was playing a lot of MGO for awhile, but I doubt I'll play much more. I think the next game I plan on buying is Madden 09. There's a bunch of stuff I'll be buying this holiday though.

How do I hand out with you, again?

Jul. 20, 2008 | 10:20 PM Kisuke says:

a question. when you are in act four[goes for other acts than this one really]going up against crying wolf... does it count off for killing the girls in the gas masks[i just call them 'frogs']or will it let you get by with that?

Jul. 27, 2008 | 8:51 PM Jerkapotamus responds:

Yes, frogs count as kills.

Jul. 25, 2008 | 12:33 AM 7794 says:

How the hell did you do the end of Act 3 when you are guarding "Big Boss's" *cough* Soldius's *cough* in the van how the hell did you do that?

When i get to the part when the Frog soldiers come start to come (When all the other vans are blown up) i always am down to half of my heath and its just an onslaught of them shooting you and then i 100% of the time die.

Jul. 27, 2008 | 9:11 PM Jerkapotamus responds:

The bike chase was one of the harder parts of the game. From your description, you're at the part where the flying unmanned vehicles come into play, when your health is restored. The flying things can't damage you though, so you only have to worry about the frogs. The first frog you encounter should be in a little alley. Generally auto-aim tranqing will work as you zoom by him. He can take out half your life though.

There's another guy that shows up on a truck. Again, auto-aim tranqing should do the job. Next comes the real hard parts. You'll come to a point where you zig-zag in between two trucks. Before the trucks show up, throw a smoke grenade around where the first truck is going to be (this may take some practice). Switch back to the tranq gun and auto-aim should take them out. The next conflict is where a truck flips over you. Try to tranq the two guys that jump down on the other side of the truck. Now it's time to switch to the solar gun. Continue auto-aiming. The key to remember is that you don't need to stun each from, you just need to make them flinch. Alternate firing and moving the right stick to move targets. When you run out of charge, switch to the tranquilizer or the stun grenades.

That's the strategy I used. You'll have very little health left, but you don't need it to beat Raven.

Jul. 26, 2008 | 4:31 PM Duffi says:

Aw tits, I weren't even close to beating yours. But I kinda' slowpoked at some spots, so it makes sense.

Cool, I just started to get into the MGS series. I'm currently playing the remake of the first MGS on the Gamecube, working my way up to number 4 one game at a time.
